Over the course of the past century there has been a dramatic change or evolution in the style of ladies underwear. While most agree that the change in the style of panties is as a result of increased freedom and reduced moral restrictions, there are some people who even state that the change is due to odd factors such as global warming.

Bloomers
Typically worn by most women at the turn of the 20th century, bloomers were mostly cotton almost knee length knickers that sometimes were adorned with lace frills.
Bloomers are still fairly fashionable amongst the lovers of Victorian fashion trends but nowadays they are more frequently worn as a pair of pants instead of knickers.
Full Granny Panties
Oh heaven forbid, The panty revolution has begun and ladies have become so immoral and have cut the legs off their bloomers. What is this world coming to!
The early 1900's saw the beginning of the end of the bloomer. Full "Granny" panties were born and the legs gained new freedom and exposure.

While the thong traditionally has a slightly wider strap and the G-String is characterised by a thin string type lace at the back, the terms are often interchangeable and can be rather confusing to most.

Illustrated to the right is the underwear that has been made famous by Britney Spears in the 2000's.
Britney Spears made news worldwide with journalists capturing upskirt flashes of her without any knickers at all. I am led to believe that this did become quite a trend in the USA but it was not a big hit in S.A.
The C-String
The lastest invention and innovation in ladies underwear and swimwear is that of the revealing C-String.
Although the C-String has been made commercially available it has not yet really become popular. The C shaped item is held in place in a similar fashion to a child's alice band.
There are no strings attached to this model and those who do choose to wear it do so at their own risk. It does allow for great sun tanning at the beach.

Crotchless panties are panties that have their crotch part missing. These lingerie items are a great hit in the bedroom and provide a new avenue of bedroom fun but are not so popular as a daily lingerie item.
The original purpose of panties is to reduce the risk of body stains making their way to outer clothing and to provide a small degree of modesty to the wearer. Crotchless panties kind of defeats this objective and you may as well be wearing Britney Spears panties instead.
